A hybrid effects sequence distributes the visible requirements of one event across different production methods. Motion, contact, illumination and environment can each be solved separately before they are combined.
Different requirements within one event
An aircraft crash contains more than an aircraft trajectory. It also contains contact with a surface, interaction with performers, changing light and a setting that must remain continuous. Recording one of those elements does not automatically provide the others.
The 1917 aircraft sequence combined digital flight, photographed replica material and a burning-plane setup on location. Each contribution addressed a different part of the apparent event. Describing the entire sequence as either an actual crash or a wholly digital one would remove those distinctions.
The relevant question is what each element had to do in the finished image and which method supplied it.
Illumination and visible source
The burning church in 1917 combined photographed interactive lighting with a digitally substituted church. Interactive lighting is light cast onto photographed subjects and surroundings in response to an apparent source within the scene.
The practical source of that illumination and the source depicted in the final image need not be the same physical object. The lighting connects the photographed performance to a visible element supplied later.
Take a constructed shot with a changing light pattern on an actor and a digitally added fire beyond the actor. The recorded light provides interaction; the fire image supplies the represented cause. Either element alone leaves the intended relationship incomplete.
Integration and continuity
Combining elements requires agreement about viewpoint, timing and the state of the scene. A physical replica can supply a contact event while a digital element supplies another phase of movement. The transition must preserve the intended continuity between them.
This is a division of requirements, not a hierarchy in which one method is inherently more authentic. A method’s contribution is defined by the problem it solves.
Scope of a production claim
A complete account names the elements and their assignments. The existence of practical light does not establish a practical final fire image; a digital aircraft phase does not establish that every interaction was generated.
The unit of explanation is the assembled event, with each production contribution retained.
